Laughter Epidemic

My laughter!!! It’s contagious, very contagious and all my friends would vouch for it.

The best laughing times we had was in our training days back in 2007, some of the people had this job of triggering laughter in me and then the rest of the gang would join and we would spend next 20 minutes laughing nonstop for no reasons. We would laugh till we were out of breath and tears roll of our eyes.

But never did I know, there could be something in history as a “Laughter epidemic”. Never did I imagine laughter could be so contagious that can bring an epidemic in a city and schools are forced to shut down. I wish our laughter was so contagious and powerful, we could shut our office for few days :)

Anyways, I wrote this post, coz I read about this epidemic in Wiki and thought it’s something unusual and worth sharing. Tanganyika laughter epidemic, happened in 1962 in Tanzania, near border of Kenya. I think it’s one of its kind, 14 schools were shutdown and more than 1000 people affected. Six to eighteen months after it started, the phenomenon died off. Wow!!! And they say laughter is the best medicine :D

P.S: Do read the link above to know more about this epidemic.

zzz ZZZZZ zzz ......

This is what happens when you are totally bored and are fixed in your office chair, waiting for the clock to tick 5...

I dont know what to do,

do what your heart says,

say a word or two to ur loved,

loved are far in time n space,

space reminds me of hyperspace,

hyperspace is what I am studying in class,

class is fun sans the driving,

driving when u r drunk is bad,

bad is when u r bored,

bored is what I am now,

now is the time to update ur blog,

blog is what I am writing this for,

for I really dont know what to write,

write something that makes sense,

sense is not working at this moment,

moment is what you should capture,

capture how bored you are,

are you guys also bored ?

bored if you are, and dont know what to do?

do what I just did ! :)

Name Game

People who migrate to US of A for the first time complain about the American accent and the tough time they have to cope up with the American names. But are we any less? I am sure Americans equally face a tough time understanding our accent. We literally kill them with all our long names especially people from south with the usual Big one line names…Imagine the Americans saying ‘Vangala Govindrajan Krishnappa’ or ‘Bhagyalakshmi Kantharajappa Murthy’ or Krishna Kumar Gopalan Visweswaran’. They would die out of sheer frustration of not able to pronounce/say it correctly.

One of my south Indian friend has this big south Indian name. He was on a call with the customer care and this American lady was having a tough time understanding his accent and his name. So she asked him to spell his name…not used to the International phonetic alphabet, he went with the Indian nursery A for Apple, B for ball thingy, he somehow managed to cross this 25letters of his name. Now when he came to his last word of his name which ends like APPA..he says A for APPLE, P for PineApple and we all burst into laughter…A for Apple…P for Pineapple..ha ha ha..we still laugh whenever we remember this incident…I am sure the American lady also had a good doze of laughter even though she had a tough time decoding the name…

My friend has come a long way, now he only uses the western union phonetic alphabets and says A as in Adam, P as in Peter :)
First time bloopers are funny but worth cherishing...

Life - A Jigsaw Puzzle...

There are times and days in your life when you introspect and complain or situations lead u to think and rethink…

What’s happening in my life?

Jeez!!! not again…Why does this happen to me all the time?

Why am I in this shit? How will I get out of it?

Why me ?

Why do I have to wait for so long...Don’t I deserve better?

Yes it happens to me..It happens to most of us…

We do know that everything happens for a reason and as you go ahead in your life you’ll get a substance for what had happened…it sometimes takes years to reveal the mystery or sometimes it’s just a few moments away…

What we see is not always true, the ground reality is sometimes different, the trailer can be deceiving, you need to watch the movie to know the entire plot. Years later or when everything is set straight, you look back in life, you will see all the pieces had a perfect meaning, each piece had to be there to make the puzzle complete.

Life’s like a jigsaw puzzle, where every event good or bad are the pieces of this puzzle, which completes this beautiful picture called Life. If you miss one piece, this picture would remain incomplete.

But when the going gets tough we are bound to cogitate. We are too human to understand the ground behind the unforeseen happenings in life. At times even those small little things in life, irritates you, annoys you…

I was having a bad day, things were getting on nerves…everything seem to be going wrong, events forced me to think, ‘Why Me’?

And then, I get a mail in my inbox, and it said it all….

" After Sept. 11th, one company invited the remaining members of other companies who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their available office space.
At a morning meeting, the head of security told stories of why these people were alive......and all the stories were just the 'LITTLE' things. As you might know, the head of the company survived that day because his son started kindergarten.
Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts.
One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time.
One of them missed his bus.
One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change.
One's car wouldn't start.
One went back to answer the telephone.
One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have.
One couldn't get a taxi.
The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he go there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid.
That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone when in a hurry... all the little things that annoy me. I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment... So Next time your morning seems to be going wrong, the children are slow getting dressed, you can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light, don't get mad or frustrated.
God is at work watching over you & taking care of you.
When something happens to you – Good or Bad; consider what it means.
There’s a purpose to life’s events. To teach you how to laugh more and not to cry too hard.
When you feel down because you didn’t get what you want, just sit tight and be happy. God has thought of something better to give you."

Suddenly I was at peace, as if I had answers to all my worries… with time things got sorted out and I realized there’s a purpose to life’s events, everything that looked improper and illogical in the past made complete sense now…undoubtedly there’s a reason for everything, and each event conspires to make a way for you, towards your destiny. When such things happen you’re bound to believe God is at work watching over you & taking care of you!

A great friend of mine Ms. Yamini Murty, she is an awesome blogger, visit http://expressmyway.blogspot.com/ to know for yourself. She has this series called “Aisa Bhi Hota Hain”, which is such an awesome way to put down in words all those little incidents/episodes/bloopers that life brings with it, and the wit she adds to it makes it worth reading.. This inspired me to write all the goof ups and blunders that I do or see around. This series of post under the label “US Jahan Mein Hum” is specially dedicated to all the bloopers and faux pas I do or see around during my stay in US of A.. so that I can laugh and relive all of them as I grow old. A Year Gone By...

Back in time,
Thinking of the ride.
A year gone by,
Was an attempt to fly.

Flight seems high,
But that’s a lie,
For I've crossed only a mile.
But then it’s the genesis,
Beautiful are the reminisces.

The year gone by,
sure contributed to the fly.
Memories I capture,
As I march into future.

Long appears the drive,
A tryst with time,
Need to be brave,
To conquer the game.
But this is about the year gone by,
And the celebration it buys!

Chai Parle-G ka sang hain

There is a old saying 'Time and tide waits for no one'. So very true time seems to be running and its running fast. Many atimes I wish I could go back to my childhood, smile and laugh awhile..run and play around...just stand and stare at objects that look mysterious or even if they don't;)

I was having chai and parle G this evening with my roomates, and it reminded me so many things of my childhood and for a moment we went back to the golden days and discussed all those things we use to do as a child. I also ended up writing a few lines a tribiute to Parle-G, the biscuit we all have grown up with and I still love it:)
the poem is named 'Chai Parle-G ka sang hain'

Anko mein nend hain, fir b ek umang hain,
kaam ke bojh se jhuki hain zindagi,
bachpan mein fir jane ka mann hain,
Chai Parle-G ka sang hain.

Samay ki raftar se dar lagta hain,
kuch pal churane ka jee karta hain,
bachpan mein fir jane ka mann hain,
Chai Parle-G ka sang hain.

Kuch pal apno ke saath beeta le,
kuch purani yaado ko fir jee le,
bachpan mein fir jane ka mann hain,
Chai Parle-G ka sang hain.

Galtio pe mummy ki woh daat,
daat ke baat mummy ka woh dular,
bachpan mein fir jane ka mann hain,
Chai Parle-G ka sang hain.

Chai Parle-G ka sang hua khatam,
samay ne fir hain pukara,
bachpan se nikalne ka hain ishara,

fir laut ke auga,
kuch pal bachpan mein beetane,
Chai Parle-G ke sang.
